The aim of the project is to utilise the Rožná uranium deposit formed approximately 270 ma. as a natural analogue for the study of the behaviour of uranium in the Earth’s crust. In this manner we would like to facilitate predictions of the behaviour of burnt-up nuclear fuel which consists, similarly to the uranium ore at the deposit, predominantly of UO2, at the place of its disposal. The aim is to deepen our knowledge of the mechanisms of deposit formation and the surrounding geological environment which has operated as a natural geochemical barrier precluding the migration of uranium from the deposit into the adjacent areas.
