What will you learn?
The study programme Geology encompasses the basics of the main geological disciplines such as mineralogy, palaeontology, tectonics, petrology, geochemistry and geophysics, Earth history etc. Our practical geology excercises will teach you to identify basic minerals, rocks, fossils and structures and you will learn to apply your new theoretical knowledge in practice. Optional courses will allow you to specialise in a geological discipline of your own choice.
Applied and Environmental Geology is a professionally-focused study programme which will prepare you to become a succesful specialist right after graduation. Aside giving you theoretical knowledge and the foundations to identify rocks, structures, minerals and fossils, we will teach you about groundwater dynamics in the Earth's crust, what hazards are related to its preservation and health safety. You will learn to operate technological devices necessary for obtaining information on mineral and rock composition and water characteristics. You will become proficient at processing and evaluating the data using computer models.
During your studies you will be working with top class laboratory and scientific equipment, analysing natural resources, studying construction materials, groundwater preservation or, for instance, soil contamination.
Students can get involved in research with the SEG Student Chapter, which falls within the international Society of Economic Geologists. The SEG organizes domestic and abroad trips to resource deposits of high interest.
Taking an advantage of the Erasmus+ programme, students can go study abroad, widening their experience, bettering their language skills and getting to know new places.
