The Department of Geological Sciences of the Masaryk university holds, together with other workplaces, competitions for elementary and high school students. The winning contestants receive unique awards, for example the unconditional offer of study in certain programmes (without the necessity of taking an entrance examination), or the qualification to compete in the International Earth Science Olympiad.
Geological Olympiad
The Geological Olympiad is a competition scrutinising the knowledge in the field of geological sciences, meant for elementary and high school level students.
Do you enjoy collecting rocks or fossils? Are you curious about the world around you and how it came to be? Does learning about igneous and other landscape forming processes read like an adventurous story to you? And do you also enjoy competing? Then the Geological Olympiad is just right for you!
The Wealth of the Earth
The competition is meant for high school students who wish to discover how to best handle the Earth’s mineral resources right from the beginning of the extraction through to their marketing, and to attempt to successfully manage the entire process themselves.

Help us find a solution to the natural gas crisis
Establish a business in natural gas extraction and contribute to the energy self-sufficiency of the Czech Republic.
The competing teams are required to design the most suitable manner of resource extraction in terms of its economic profitability and technology used, while bearing in mind the impacts of the extraction on society and the environment.
The task is to extract and market natural gas – a natural resource playing a prime role in the state’s economy. To fulfil the task, you will be using the unique professional finance tool by BLOOMBERG utilised by the world’s leading financial institutions. Thus, all competitors will get the opportunity to obtain a realistic experience of the world’s market.
The teams which will deliver well thought-out projects, giving the best project presentation will receive prizes and guaranteed an unconditional offer of study without the necessity of taking entrance exams for selected programmes.
