Field laboratory for palaeontology  

The Masaryk university is a proprietor of the world-renowned palaeontological locality Obora. The succession at Obora featurs rich Permian fossil fauna as old as 290 million years. 

This locality provides an amazing opportunity for practical palaeontologic and stratigraphic training for our students. Student from other institutions and different levels of schooling may also learn at Obora thanks to our information boards.

Xenacanthus decheni is a Permian fresh water shark species with overall body length reaching as much as 70 m.
